Biweekly paycheck budget calculator
Paid every two weeks? See how much of each paycheck goes to bills, spending and savings, what's left over, and what your two extra paychecks a year are worth.
Why biweekly pay is tricky
If you're paid every two weeks, you get 26 paychecks a year, not 24. Most months have two paydays, but two months a year have three. Bills, meanwhile, are monthly. That mismatch is why a monthly budget can feel off: your "monthly income" changes depending on how many Fridays land in the month.
The simplest fix is to budget per paycheck. Split your monthly bills and spending across the two paychecks you can count on every month, and treat the third paycheck as a bonus with a job of its own.
How this calculator works
Enter your take-home pay (what actually hits your bank account), your total monthly bills, your monthly spending money, and a savings percentage. The calculator:
- shows your average monthly income (paycheck × 26 ÷ 12), useful for comparing to bills;
- splits bills and spending in half, so each regular paycheck covers its share;
- sets aside your savings percentage from each check;
- shows what's left over per paycheck and labels it OK, Tight (under 5% of the check) or Short;
- shows the value of the two extra paychecks each year.
What to do with the result
If you're Short, every regular paycheck falls behind, and the gap usually ends up on a credit card. Look for one bill to cut or renegotiate, or lower the savings rate for now. If you're Tight, any surprise expense will hurt, so a small buffer should be your first savings goal. If you're OK, give the leftover a job: an emergency fund, extra debt payments, or sinking funds for yearly costs.
One limit to know
Splitting bills evenly is a shortcut. In real life, rent may be due on the 1st while your paychecks land on the 5th and 19th, so one check carries more than the other. Matching each bill to the paycheck before its due date is the next step, and our Biweekly Paycheck Budget spreadsheet does that matching for all 26 paychecks automatically.
Frequently asked questions
How much is biweekly pay per month?
On average, multiply one paycheck by 26 and divide by 12. A $1,600 paycheck averages about $3,466.67 a month, but most months you'll actually receive $3,200.
What should I do with a third paycheck?
Since your regular bills are covered by the first two, the third can go to savings, debt payoff, or yearly costs like car registration.
Should I use gross or take-home pay?
Use take-home pay, the amount deposited after taxes and deductions. That's the money you can actually budget.
Is anything I enter saved?
No. The math runs in your browser and nothing is stored or sent.
